How to login as a customer
Sometimes you want to use your website from your own customer’s perspective. They have different roles and permissions on your website so will experience it differently than you as an admin or someone not logged in at all. This can help you:
- See what photos a customer sees
- Troubleshoot problems a customer reports
- Help a customer add items to their own cart
- Verify specific settings or features from a customer's perspective
One great thing about WordPress is you can almost always find an existing plugin to help you do what you want. The User Switching plugin is perfect for this situation.
Step 1: Install the User Switching Plugin
- Go to Plugins > Add New in your WordPress admin.
- Search for User Switching.
- Click Install Now, then Activate.
Step 2: Find the Customer’s User Account
- Go to Users > All Users.
- Find the customer you want to log in as.
- Hover over their name and click Switch To.
You’ll now be logged in as that customer. You can browse your site and see exactly what they see.
Step 3: Switch Back to Your Admin Account
When you’re done:
- Click your name in the top-right corner of the WordPress admin bar.
- Click Switch back to [your username].
That’s it. You’re back to your admin account.
Note! If you do submit an order on their behalf, the email on file for their customer account will receive the email receipts about it - not you.
